ALTHOUGH the weather has tried to disrupt the training regime of the Port Macquarie Rowing Club, the members have continued undaunted.
Now, their preparation will be put to test this weekend when the masters compete in the NSW Regatta, which is being held at the Sydney International Rowing Centre, Penrith.
Port Macquarie is boasting a 16-strong squad, aged from 45 to 71 years.
The local outfit will compete in approximately 28 races, which includes single, double and quad skulls.
The team features former masters champion Jim Young and ex-South African national titleholder Rob Hopley.
They will be joined this year by two novices, Louise Jones and Pauline Roods, who are attending their first regatta.
The Port Macquarie Rowing Club has been well represented in the past with a number of titles under its belt - and the members are expected to bring home a few medals in 2008.
This highly-contested regatta is attended by all NSW clubs, approximately 43 in all, with some organisations fielding past Olympic rowers.
Two Port Macquarie members, Jim Young and Elizabeth Levido, have been selected in the masters men's and women's quads to compete at the Australian State Championships at Negambie Victoria later this month.
The Port Macquarie Rowing Club is always happy to welcome newcomers, experienced and non-experienced rowers.
