Club launches MX assault

25/07/2008 5:00:00 AM
THE Hastings Valley Motorcycle Club will launch a 13-rider assault on the second round of the Rockstar Energy Drink NSW MX Championship this weekend at Port Macquarie.

Leading the local charge are Jacqui Jones, Jesse Jenkins and Joel Armitage.

Jones, who is one of Australia’s leading female riders, won the national Girls On The Gas competition in 2007 and recently finished fourth in the NSW Women’s.

Jenkins, meanwhile, secured victory in the clubman all powers in the opener at Clarence last month.

Armitage is currently the highest placed Port Macquarie rider in the championship’s premier class, NSW Open, sitting 20th.

Joining the trio is Zac Martin (85cc 12/U14 years), Ben Andrews (65cc 9/U11 years), Matthew Andrews (65cc 11/U13 years), Sam Byron (65cc 11/U13 years), Lachlan Byron (50cc), Josh Brown (junior 250cc 15 years), Thomas Evans (85cc 9/U12 years), Jayden Grace (50cc), Shaun Borham (NSW Open) and Andrew Blackford (clubman all powers).

Organisers, Dirt Bike Promotion’s Phil Sargent and Detour’s Lyndon Heffernan, said the first round had been a “huge success”.

“If the opener is anything to go by, which we reckon it definitely is, spectators are in for a real treat this weekend,” Sargent said.

“Port Macquarie is a fantastic venue, with most of the track visible from the pits and viewing area

“I really encourage everyone to come out and cheer on their local riders.

“It’s also a real privilege to have the chance to watch the likes of Matt Moss and Tye Simmonds, so we’re looking forward to an awesome weekend of racing.”

Racing at the Hastings Valley Motorcycle Raceway (170 Pacific Highway) starts at 8am tomorrow and Sunday.

Some junior qualifying will be held from noon today.

Entry is $5 for adults and $2 for children under 14.

The final showdown of the championship is scheduled for August 23 and 24 at the Cessnock Motorcycle Complex, Cessnock.
