16/05/2008 12:03:00 PM
A vehicle reached speeds of up to 180km/h during a police pursuit on the Pacific Hwy near Port Macquarie on Wednesday before smashing into a truck, it is alleged.

The accident happened about 1km south of Sancrox Rd after a police pursuit from Kew.

A 19-year-old Macquarie Fields woman and a 24-year-old Condell Park man were treated at Port Macquarie Base Hospital for neck pain and later charged with driving, firearm and assault offences.

The Sydney pair appeared in custody in Port Macquarie Local Court yesterday, where they applied for bail but it was refused.

Police allege the pair was involved in an argument with the owners of a Coopernook motel and produced a silver revolver before fleeing in a vehicle.

They were allegedly detected travelling at 132km/h at Moorland and police started pursuing them just north of Kew.

The woman is charged with assault, possession of a prohibited weapon, driving while disqualified, driving at a speed dangerous to the public, exceeding the speed limit and driving an unregistered vehicle, as well as being charged with an outstanding warrant.

The man is charged with assault, driving in a manner dangerous to the public, driving while unlicensed, goods in custody, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving while unlicensed and with an outstanding warrant.

The pair will re-appear in Port Macquarie Local Court on June 16 by audio visual link.
