ENGINE reconditioning specialists Watt and Parsons Engineering knows how to pick a good apprentice.
Port Macquarie man Michael Styles is the company's second apprentice of the year.
The 23-year-old, who completed his apprenticeship with Watt and Parsons Engineering, was awarded the Institute of Automotive Mechanical Engineers Award after he scored the highest average mark on completion of his automotive mechanical engine reconditioning course.
He is the second Watt and Parsons apprentice to win the award, with Gavin Potts also recognised in late 2005.
Watt and Parsons manager Peter Parsons said training two apprentices of the year meant the company knew its trade.
Mr Styles, who received three awards, said he didn't expect to win the state award.
"I put the hard work in and I was really pleased when I received it," he said.
Mr Styles now works at Expressway Spares.
Meanwhile, Engine World employee Nathan Latham won best workshop attitude award for engine reconditioning at the South Western Sydney Institute of TAFE Wetherill Park Campus awards.
He also received a certificate in automotive mechanical engine reconditioning at credit level.
Engine World director John Black said the 22-year-old was an asset to the business.
"It proves how good he is," Mr Black said.
